Catania Airport on the Italian island of Sicily has temporarily suspended the arrival and departure of flights due to volcanic activity from Mount Etna, which sent ash into the sky.

The airport administration said that aircraft arrivals and departures had been halted. Channel NewsAsia reports this, citing a statement from the airport.
Catania Airport serves approximately 12 million passengers annually. It was also closed for a week in August, at the height of the summer season.
