Accenture: AI can accelerate defense production and supply
The defense industrial base faces a widening gap between demand for military products and the capacity to deliver them, while artificial intelligence can accelerate design, manufacturing, and supply chain management. Anna Garcia Olson, head of Navy & Marine Corps Business, said that the traditional cycle for creating military platforms, which sometimes lasts years or decades, has become a strategic constraint. According to her, the defense industry needs tools to accelerate development, production, and decision-making.
Digital design
Accenture Federal Services said that digital twins, modeling, and robotic automation are already widely used in the defense industrial base. In the company’s view, AI can enhance these processes: engineers can identify design problems and correct them in a virtual environment before creating or reworking a physical prototype.

Amy Bahrami, head of AI and Data, emphasized the need for secure cloud infrastructure to exchange data between design and manufacturing sites. At the same time, final decisions and verification of results must be carried out by people, since model effectiveness depends on the quality and availability of data.
Supply and workforce
Accenture named supply chains designed for peacetime, rapidly changing military requirements, and order volumes exceeding manufacturers’ capacity among the reasons for the gap between demand and deliveries. The company also considers shortages of rare-earth materials, microchips, and personnel, as well as difficulties accessing the Strait of Hormuz, to be additional challenges.
According to Accenture’s assessment, AI tools can track materials and components in supply chains, identify potential bottlenecks and alternative suppliers. The company also described systems capable of promptly processing technical documentation, drawings, and work instructions so that production workers can find solutions faster in the event of an error.
