Aliyev stated that Russia is no longer able to supply its partners with oil and gas

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Russia can no longer supply sufficient volumes of oil and natural gas to its traditional partners due to damage to its energy infrastructure.

According to him, Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to ten European countries, including EU member states. Aliyev also called on European banks to resume financing oil and gas projects, noting that this would allow Baku to increase energy supplies to Europe, particularly to Germany.

Following a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the parties signed a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership. Merz emphasized that Germany aims to continue diversifying its energy supply in cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that he considers the country’s time as part of the Russian Empire and the USSR to have been a colonial period. According to him, Azerbaijan did not have true independence at that time, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was able to prove that it could develop independently. Aliyev also reiterated his support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
