"Alternative for Germany" calls for the resumption of oil and gas purchases from Russia

"Alternative for Germany" calls for the resumption of oil and gas purchases from Russia

The pro-Russian party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) has officially called for a resumption of Russian energy imports following its successful state parliament elections.

The leadership of the political party, which is suspected of spying for the Kremlin, believes it is necessary to resume oil and gas supplies from Russia, which had nearly ceased following the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Party leader Markus Fronmaier stated that Germany’s economic situation is currently critical.

In his view, it is Russian resources that can ensure Germany’s energy independence and make electricity affordable for the population.

The politician is blatantly ignoring the security risks to Europe posed by funding the Russian war machine.

“The situation in the German economy is currently dire. For Germany’s energy independence, as well as to ensure the availability of electricity, it is extremely important that Germany resume imports of Russian gas and oil,” Reuters quotes Fronmaier as saying.

The AfD leader also dismissed concerns from other German politicians that funds from gas sales would bolster the aggressor’s military capabilities. He cynically noted that his priority is domestic issues, not supporting Ukraine.

“We were not elected to represent Ukraine’s national interests,” the leader of the pro-Russian party openly stated.

As a reminder, deputies from the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) traveled to Sochi for the “BRICS-Europe” symposium, organized by Putin’s “United Russia” party and the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

China wants to increase capital spending on oil and gas despite the risks posed by the conflict in the Middle East.
