Trump signs law on sanctions against Russia — Anadolu Agency

In the United States, President Donald Trump signed a law on sanctions against Russia as an aggressor state. Anadolu Agency reports this, citing the White House.

Congressional decision

The US House of Representatives approved the bill on Wednesday. The Senate passed it last month by a vote of 86 to 11 with significant bipartisan support.

The document is titled the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026. It was named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham.

Who the restrictions will affect

The law provides for primary and secondary sanctions against Russia and entities that support the war against Ukraine. The restrictions target Russian officials, oligarchs and their family members, foreign individuals, as well as Russian banks and financial institutions.

The law also allows the president to impose targeted tariffs on imports from countries that purchase the overwhelming majority of Russian oil or gas and facilitate the circumvention of sanctions against Russia. As Anadolu Agency notes in its description of the law, it expands statutory sanctions, tariffs and prohibitions concerning Russia and extends existing sanctions against Iran.
