Analysts Say Regional Powers Unlikely to Support Further UAE Influence in Yemen
Analysts warn that the current standoff between the UAE and Saudi Arabia is unfolding in a more complex regional environment than previous periods of tension. They note that the UAE’s growing presence across several strategic locations could shift the balance of power around the Red Sea.
Attention is drawn to the UAE’s role in Sudan and the potential influence it holds along parts of the country’s coastline, as well as its control over Perim Island at the entrance to the Red Sea and its presence in the Gulf of Aden and on Socotra.
Against this backdrop, observers say other regional powers are unlikely to favour the UAE extending its influence along Yemen’s long coastline as well, especially at a time when maritime routes and coastal assets carry heightened geopolitical significance.
The developments are viewed as part of a wider power configuration that could alter regional dynamics in ways that neighbouring states may not support.
