Andersson says she is ready to form a government in Sweden — The Local Sweden
In Sweden, Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson said after meeting with parliamentary speaker Andreas Norlén that she was ready to form a new government. Initial consultations with party leaders are taking place after the election.
Andersson’s statement
Andersson said she was ready to take responsibility for the election results and sought “broad cooperation.” “I am ready to form a new government,” she said at a briefing after speaking with the speaker.
Asked about differences between the Centre Party and the Left Party, she replied that it was first necessary to determine who would be tasked with attempting to form a government. After that, she said, discussions and negotiations with other parties would begin.
Andersson said she was prepared to contact six party leaders, meaning everyone except Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson. She also said that if given such a mandate, she would contact Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson. According to her, she had already been in contact with several party leaders, but did not specify whom.

Consultations with the speaker
Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar said before meeting the speaker that she supported Andersson’s candidacy for prime minister. At the same time, she insisted that the Left Party should join the government and have its own representation.
On September 18, Norlén is holding meetings with party leaders in order of their parties’ size. Andersson was the first participant in the consultations, with her meeting beginning at 10:00. Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson is expected to arrive last, at 14:00. After the talks conclude, the speaker plans to hold a press conference at around 15:30. As The Local Sweden reports, these consultations are intended to determine the politician who will be tasked with attempting to form a government.
Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch told the TT news agency that “trust-based conversations” between party leaders would be needed. She also said that the Social Democrats currently lack a basis for forming a government.
