Student reportedly killed by stray bullet in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
In New-Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria, student Ismail Magaji was reportedly killed by a stray bullet during a military operation. Magaji was a fourth-year student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University in Lapai. Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Operation in the Wawa area
According to the outlet, Magaji was studying public administration. He allegedly came under fire following an intercommunal conflict in the Wawa community, located within the Borgu Kingdom.
Reportedly, the military was operating in the area because of a land dispute that allegedly led to sporadic gunfire. The circumstances of the student's death could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

No official statements on the incident were made by the Niger State government, the Nigerian Army, or other relevant security agencies. The identities of those involved in the shooting and information on the launch of a possible investigation also remain unclear.
Preparing for exams
According to Premium Times Nigeria, Magaji was preparing for his final examinations when the university chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities announced an indefinite strike. He reportedly remained at home for about two weeks awaiting the end of the strike, and later travelled to his hometown.
According to the outlet, the student's examinations were due to begin around September 5. His classmate Yahaya Lawal described Magaji as a promising student and a calm, kind and sociable person.
