Minister Lartey inspects LEAP payments in Adenta, Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, inspected the payment process under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the Adenta Municipality. She observed the disbursement of assistance to ensure that the funds reach households covered by the programme.
During the visit, Lartey spoke with beneficiaries, their caregivers and representatives of the Adenta Municipal Assembly. She also reviewed participants’ feedback on the payment process, MyJoyOnline reports.
Payment amounts
Funds for two payment cycles are being disbursed simultaneously. Households with one or two members classified as vulnerable receive 784 Ghanaian cedis, while other households of that size receive 760 cedis.
For families with three or four members, the amount is 984 cedis if they have designated vulnerability and 904 cedis without that status. Households with five or more members receive 1,260 cedis in cases of vulnerability and 1,188 cedis in other cases.

Review of programme participants
Both current LEAP beneficiaries and households recently added to the programme following a nationwide reassessment are taking part in the payments. According to the minister, such reassessment is necessary because participants’ life circumstances may change: households whose conditions have improved may leave the programme, making it possible to include extremely poor and vulnerable families.
Lartey stressed that the expansion of LEAP requires careful oversight so that public funds reach designated beneficiaries. She urged caregivers who collect payments on behalf of people unable to do so themselves to use the assistance exclusively in the interests of its recipients.
The minister also advised participants to spend the funds wisely on household needs and called on local officials and caregivers to safeguard the reliability of the payment system. She noted the cooperation of Adenta Member of Parliament Ramadan Adam, Municipal Chief Executive Ella Christine Esinam Nongo, social protection workers, caregivers and beneficiaries.
