APC in Lagos bans candidates from leaving the country — Premium Times Nigeria
The Lagos State chapter of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has ordered all its candidates to remain in the country until the conclusion of the 2027 general elections. Chapter chairman Cornelius Ojelabi made the statement during the inauguration of the Tinubu-Hamzat Campaign Council election committee at the party’s headquarters in Ikeja.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Ojelabi urged candidates to cooperate with the election committee and remain available for the party’s campaign. According to him, from the day the committee was inaugurated, candidates are prohibited from leaving Nigeria until the general elections are concluded.
Campaign in the state
The council was established to campaign for President Bola Tinubu and APC candidate for Lagos State governor Femi Hamzat ahead of the elections. Ojelabi said the party would deploy its structures in senatorial districts, local government areas, wards and polling units.
According to the chapter chairman, the APC expects to secure 5 million votes in Lagos through coordinated grassroots mobilisation. He also urged party members not to underestimate their opponents and to conduct a campaign without hatred, thuggery and violence.

Femi Hamzat’s statements
Femi Hamzat, who serves as deputy governor of Lagos State, called on fellow party members to build the election campaign around the results of APC governments. He named tax reforms, infrastructure, agriculture and security as areas the party could discuss with voters.
Hamzat also defended the Tinubu administration’s policies, saying its measures had changed the situation in the economy and other areas. He added that the APC should seek to win between three and four million votes in the state, given the number of registered voters.
Presidential and parliamentary elections in Nigeria are scheduled for 16 January 2027. Voting for governors and members of state legislative assemblies is scheduled for 6 February 2027.
