Araghchi smiled in response to journalist’s question about executions — Jerusalem Post

In New York, United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi smiled when a journalist asked him about claims of executions, torture and imprisonment of Iranian citizens, and later dismissed the question. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post.

Fox News Digital correspondent Efrat Lachter published a video of her conversation with Araghchi on the social media platform X. She said that she asked the minister how he could call himself a victim of terrorism when Iranian authorities had executed more than 900 Iranians this year, while thousands of others had been tortured or imprisoned.

In her post, Lachter also asked what exactly Araghchi found funny. As the outlet notes, her question was connected to a speech by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly in New York. Pezeshkian said that US President Donald Trump had called them terrorists, while Iran, according to him, had been a victim of terrorism.

Araghchi’s statements in New York

On Monday, after arriving in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly, Araghchi told journalists that Israel had allegedly been allowed to do whatever it wanted. He also said that Iran’s purpose in taking part in the event was to defend the legality, rights and interests of the Iranian people.

Araghchi also reproached other countries for not condemning the alleged atrocities that, according to him, the United States and Israel had committed in Iran. He stated that 168 children had been deliberately killed in a single moment.
