Sudan’s army says it recaptured Al-Jamama — Anadolu Agency
Sudan’s army said it regained control of the strategic Al-Jamama area northeast of the city of Sodari in North Kordofan state on September 19. According to military sources, army units and allied forces drove fighters of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) out of the area.
Claims of control over the area
As Anadolu Agency reports, army forces and their allies advanced in the area and along the North Kordofan axis, pursuing RSF units.
The Sudanese Joint Forces also released videos on social media in which they claimed to have captured Al-Jamama. At the same time, Sudan’s government has not officially announced that it established control over the area, while the RSF did not immediately comment on these reports.

A hub on an important route
Al-Jamama is a commercial center and an important area connecting El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, with the city of Ad-Dabba in Northern state. The RSF had controlled Al-Jamama and maintained a presence in areas west and northwest of Sodari, as well as along a major export road, since the first months of the war.
A day earlier, the army said it had taken control of 11 areas in North Kordofan, calling it its largest recent advance. On September 6, the military also said it had established control over the town of Hamrat al-Wiz in the Jabra al-Sheikh area. Since late July, the army had reported recapturing Bara, Jabra al-Sheikh and Umm Sayala, as well as controlling the main road between Bara and Omdurman.
The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued since April 2023. According to estimates by the UN and international organizations, tens of thousands of people have been killed in the fighting, while around 13 million have been forced to leave their homes.
