Sindh Assembly in Pakistan extends Rangers deployment for a year — Dawn
The Provincial Assembly of Sindh in Pakistan unanimously ratified the extension of the deployment of the Pakistan Rangers in the province for another year — from July 20, 2026, to July 19, 2027. The force will assist the civil administration throughout Sindh.
As Dawn reports, the resolution was introduced by Provincial Interior Minister Zia Lanjar. The document states that, given the current law-and-order situation, the Rangers' presence is necessary to preserve public peace and protect the lives and property of the population.
Rationale for the extension
The Assembly recalled that the previous one-year deployment term lasted from July 20, 2025, to July 19, 2026. The resolution states that the Rangers, together with Sindh Police and other law enforcement agencies, conducted intelligence-based operations, helped apprehend wanted persons, and seized illegal weapons and ammunition.

According to the document, these measures made a significant contribution to improving the law-and-order situation, including reducing the number of targeted killings, street crimes, and other serious offenses. At the same time, the resolution refers to the continued activity of banned organizations, the presence of high-profile fugitives from justice, and security risks in 2026–2027.
Rangers in the province
The Pakistan Rangers were first deployed in Sindh in 1989 under Article 147 of Pakistan's Constitution. The provincial government believes that extending their presence is necessary to maintain law and order, strengthen internal security, and protect the lives and property of Sindh residents.
