Russian UAV attack on Romania: new details emerge
On the night of May 29, Russia launched a drone attack on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine near the river border with Romania. One of the drones crossed the border and crashed onto the roof of a high-rise building, according to local sources.
This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
“One drone entered Romanian airspace; it was tracked by radar as far as the southern part of the city of Galați, after which it crashed onto the roof of a residential building, causing a fire. Specialized teams from the IGSU and other Interior Ministry agencies, the Romanian Intelligence Service, and the Romanian police are working at the scene,” the statement said.
Ministry of Defense radars detected drones moving near Romanian airspace. Two F-16 aircraft, which were on combat duty as part of the Air Police, took off at 01:19 from the 86th Air Base in Fetești with the support of a Romanian Air Force IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter. The pilots of the aircraft were authorized to engage targets for the entire duration of the alert.
The National Military Command Center (NCC) informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the need to take measures to alert the public. In this context, RO-Alert notifications were sent to the counties of Tulcea, Galați, and Brăila.
“The situation is changing rapidly, and we will provide official information and data as soon as they become available,” the agency added.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident involving a drone crash near the city of Galați.
