Australia and Germany will establish an early warning system for threats from Russia

Australia and Germany have signed a letter of intent to develop cooperation aimed at strengthening the monitoring of third-party activities in space.

This was reported by ABC.

During a joint press conference, representatives from both sides highlighted the growing threats in space, particularly from China and Russia. These include the potential to jam signals, “blind” or even destroy satellites.

In response, the countries plan to create an independent global network of sensors—a kind of early warning system—that will allow them to protect their own space systems.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius emphasized that China and Russia are the main “neighbors” in space, making the development of an independent surveillance system critically important.

The press conference took place during the German defense minister’s first visit to Australia in eight years, signaling a deepening of bilateral relations between the countries.

In addition to space cooperation, the parties also discussed the conclusion of a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and prospects for cooperation in the defense industry.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense called on European countries to join forces in developing new technologies to counter ballistic missiles.
