Azerbaijan rejects France’s claims in travel warning — Anadolu Agency
Azerbaijan rejected France’s claims about the risk of arbitrary detention and unfair trials, which Paris used to justify its travel warning for Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada said that Baku strongly condemns and rejects the French side’s statements.
Baku’s response
According to Hajizada, presenting court proceedings in certain criminal cases, which are conducted in accordance with Azerbaijani law, as politically motivated is unacceptable. He also described attempts to interfere in Azerbaijan’s judicial system as unacceptable.

The spokesperson also said that, in making such claims, France does not take into account problems in its own law enforcement and penitentiary systems. In addition, he accused France of violations of international law, racism, discrimination and restrictions on human rights. Baku called on Paris to refrain from what the Azerbaijani side described as unfounded and biased accusations, respect Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and internal affairs, and stop approaches that harm bilateral relations.
France’s position
The day before, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavre, responding to journalists’ questions about the travel warning, said that France generally advises against travel to Azerbaijan because of the risk of arbitrary detention and unfair trials. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s response was reported by Anadolu Agency.
