Father of slain hostage calls on Netanyahu to apologize — Jerusalem Post
In Israel, Rabbi Elhanan Danino, the father of slain hostage Ori Danino, on the eve of Yom Kippur called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ask forgiveness from the dead. He said this in an interview with radio station 103FM, the Jerusalem Post reports.
A call for repentance
Danino said that Netanyahu should visit military, civilian and kibbutz cemeteries and ask forgiveness from the young men and women buried there who were killed and burned. According to him, no one has the right to forgive on behalf of the dead.
Ori Danino's father stressed that words alone are not enough to ask for forgiveness: in his view, repentance must come first. He also said that he cannot ask for forgiveness or absolution for his son's blood, as Ori was a separate, independent person.

Danino added that, in his conviction, forgiveness is impossible without acknowledging responsibility for one's own actions. He linked this to mistakes that, he said, had been made for nearly two decades and had catastrophic consequences.
A memorial book about Ori Danino
In the interview, Danino also spoke about the book “Hashem Ori,” written in memory of his son. At first, he wrote down individual chapters for himself so as not to lose important memories and information. The idea of turning the notes into a book arose after a meeting with the Kinneret Zmora Dvir publishing team during one of his lectures at Ono Academic College.
According to Danino, during the work, repressed memories gradually returned, including updates he had received and conversations. He described Ori as a person who, from an early age, noticed the needs of others and rushed to help them before taking care of himself.
