Republican strategist Rove to support Democrat in Texas — The Hill
In Texas, Republican strategist Karl Rove said he will vote in November for Democrat John Rosenthal, the opponent of Republican Bo French in the election for state railroad commissioner. The Hill reports.

In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal published on Tuesday, Rove wrote that this will be only the second time in his life that he votes for a Democratic Party candidate. The first, he said, was Texas Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock in 1994, because Rove believed he would work with Republicans.
Rove wrote that Rosenthal will be the second Democrat for whom he casts his vote. He also said that the Republican Party needs a “cleaning” and that this campaign is the right place to begin it.

Reaction to French's posts
Last weekend, Texas Republicans condemned French over his post about students of South Asian descent at the University of Texas at Austin. The candidate published a photograph of students at a football game and suggested that people of South Asian descent were allegedly displacing others in the university's student community.
French initially shared on social media platform X a screenshot of a post featuring a photograph of students and the caption “Bollywood University.” He later published a similar image and wrote that the situation was, in his view, much worse than one could have imagined.
In his column, Rove also wrote that the number of supporters of the idea of “hereditary America” is growing in the Republican Party, which he described as a country of white descendants of the first European settlers. The Hill contacted French's campaign for comment.
