Debris from a suspected Russian missile was found off the coast of Norway
Debris that may belong to a Russian missile has been discovered in the Barents Sea near the Norwegian town of Kyborg. The object in the water was spotted by fisherman Kenneth Stensen and wildlife photographer Morten Goswand, according to “European Truth,” citing NRK.
According to Gosvand, the object was nearly 1.5 meters long. The men immediately called the Norwegian Army’s hotline, after which Coast Guard representatives arrived at the scene.
Before the coast guard arrived, the current and waves had carried the object away in an unknown direction. However, Stensen and Gosvand managed to take a series of photographs of the debris.
Brinjar Stordal, a spokesperson for the Norwegian Armed Forces’ operational headquarters in Bodø, stated that such a discovery is not unexpected given the military activity of the Russian Federation—an aggressor state—in the region. According to him, naval firing exercises are conducted nearby from time to time, and debris can wash up on the Norwegian coast. Stordal also emphasized that such objects can be dangerous, and the witnesses did the right thing by notifying the appropriate authorities.
