Belarus has stopped allowing Russian conscripts to travel abroad

Belarus has stopped allowing Russian conscripts to travel abroad

Belarus has established a joint border control database with Russia, as a result of which Russians who are barred from leaving the country are no longer allowed to cross the border.

This was reported by Belsat.

The State Border Committee of Belarus confirmed that it relies on data from Russian registries. If a person is listed in the database of those prohibited from leaving the country, they are not allowed to leave Belarusian territory.

As border guards explained, if there are no restrictions in the database, a person may leave freely; however, if a ban is in place, all inquiries should be directed to the Russian side.

The first known case occurred on April 27. A Russian man who received an electronic summons and was supposed to appear for a medical examination was subsequently added to the registry of individuals barred from leaving the country.

He attempted to leave the country via Belarus, but was removed from the flight without explanation. Later, the man tried to fly from Minsk to Tbilisi and Yerevan, but was also denied departure.

Additionally, Russia may have instructed Belarus to keep Ukrainian forces “on edge” ahead of new attacks in the east and south. This is according to the Center for Countering Disinformation. Meanwhile, Ukraine is observing troop activity and the preparation of positions near the border.

The situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border remains stable: currently, there is no observed deployment of additional equipment or increase in troop numbers from the Belarusian side.
