Belarus has decided to close its embassy in Finland

The Council of Ministers of Belarus has decided to close the country’s embassy in Finland. However, no details regarding the reasons or the timing of the diplomatic mission’s closure have been disclosed at this time.

This is mentioned in the list of decisions by the Belarusian government and has also been reported by the Finnish publication HS.

The decision by the Council of Ministers of Belarus, dated August 20 and signed by Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, states that the Belarusian embassy in Finland will be closed as of September 1.

The Belarusian government also noted that the January 2011 decree on the opening of the embassy in Finland is to be deemed “no longer in force.”

The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this information to a Finnish media outlet. The Belarusian Embassy is located in Helsinki and is accredited to Denmark, meaning it also represents Belarus in Denmark.

It should be noted that the Belarusian embassy in Slovakia closed in September 2023, though no public explanation was given for this move.
