The Texas Court of Appeals reduced the damages awarded against Alex Jones to $1.5 million
The Texas Court of Appeals reduced the damages awarded against Alex Jones, founder of the right-wing platform Infowars, from $50 million to $1.5 million. The case concerned his false claims that the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, was a hoax.
According to The Guardian World, the decision was handed down by the Third Appellate Court of Texas. The Texas court ruling does not affect a separate $1.4 billion judgment against Jones in the state of Connecticut.

Previously, Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, were found liable for damages due to their claim that the mass shooting did not occur. The appellate court’s decision marked a significant legal victory for Jones.
The unanimous panel of judges concluded that Sandy Hook parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis had not provided sufficient evidence that the harassment caused by Jones’ statements reached a level that would allow the state’s $750,000 compensation limit to be exceeded.
