Belarusian propagandists claimed there was an alleged assassination attempt on Tikhanovskaya's children

Belarusian propaganda media have claimed that activist Denis Dashkevich is allegedly involved in organizing an attack on the children of opposition politician Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. These allegations are being spread by Belarusian state-run media outlets.

The basis for the accusations is said to be excerpts from private correspondence in which Dashkevich allegedly wrote about an attack on Tikhanovskaya’s children in order to draw attention to the revocation of his refugee status in Poland. No independent confirmation of these claims has been made public at this time.

Dashkevich admitted that after receiving the decision to revoke his refugee status, he did indeed write an inappropriate remark about Tikhanovskaya’s children in a private message.

Dashkevich’s own words: “I was upset and did indeed write something along the lines of, ‘Maybe I should kill Tikhanovskaya’s children so they’ll pay attention to my problem?’ to a few human rights activists. I admit that. But I didn’t take any action: I didn’t look for her, didn’t write to her, and didn’t make any public statements about it.”

He claims that he sent these messages in private chat rooms, specifically to members of the “Partizanka” chat group, whom he had approached for help.

According to him, the Belarusian security services learned of this correspondence, after which Belarus officially warned Poland about an alleged plot to carry out a terrorist attack.

Belarusian propagandists also began spreading information about the alleged assassination attempt, claiming that Dashkevich was seeking information on the whereabouts of Tikhanovskaya and her children and was considering the possibility of an assassination attempt as a way to draw attention to his own problems.

The activist said that officers from the Polish Internal Security Agency visited him: “They showed me some documents: a Belarusian minister had passed on information to the Polish side that a terrorist attack was being planned in Poland.

As far as I understand, at first my last name wasn’t even mentioned, but eventually the conversation turned specifically to me.”

Dashevich added that he showed the officials his correspondence and provided explanations.

According to him, the investigation lasted several days and has now concluded: “I showed them everything. As far as I understand, after that, all questions were resolved. I was not detained. The Polish authorities did not bring any charges against me.”

It is reported that Dashkevich is a Belarusian activist who headed the regional news site “Rogachov Online” for over 10 years. "Nasha Niva" writes that he allegedly spread slander against human rights activist Leonid Sudalenko and worked at the state-run House of Culture. In 2022, Dashkevich left Belarus, and in 2023, a criminal case was opened against him for “insulting” Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko.

Belarus continues to expand its military infrastructure near the border with Ukraine, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

As a reminder, Lukashenko stated that Belarusian military personnel would not take part in the war against Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that one should not be naive about Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Minsk is under strong influence from Moscow, and most of the Belarusian government’s decisions are effectively dictated by the Kremlin.
