Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has temporarily left house arrest. He traveled to a hospital in the capital, Brasília, where he is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery. Bolsonaro was previously convicted of attempting a coup d'état.
His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, reported this on social media, citing Reuters.
It is noted that Bolsonaro has a chronic condition that causes constant pain in his right shoulder and limits his mobility.
Last year, Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempting to cling to power after losing the 2022 election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In March 2026, the 71-year-old Bolsonaro was transferred to “humanitarian house arrest” due to deteriorating health.
