Britain and France are preparing a mission to protect the Strait of Hormuz
The United Kingdom and France plan to lead a multinational defense mission to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which is set to begin once conditions in the region stabilize. The initiative involves clearing mines and ensuring the safety of civilian vessels on one of the world’s key maritime routes. He made this announcement at a press conference in Paris.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that London, together with Paris, will lead an international mission aimed at protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as the necessary security conditions are in place.
According to Starmer, the countries agreed to accelerate military planning, as the situation in the region requires a coordinated response from international partners to restore the stable flow of trade and energy.
“We have agreed to accelerate our military planning. I can confirm that, together with France, the United Kingdom will lead a multinational mission to protect freedom of navigation as soon as conditions permit. This will be an exclusively peaceful and defensive mission, designed to provide confidence to civilian vessels and support mine clearance efforts,” Starmer stated.
He also emphasized that opening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring stable traffic through it is a global necessity, as this route is crucial for global energy and trade.
“Opening the strait is a global necessity and a global responsibility. We must act to ensure the free flow of global energy and trade once again, to lower prices for working people,” the British prime minister added.
Additionally, Germany is expanding its military exchange program and actively involving Ukrainian instructors with real combat experience in the training of Bundeswehr units to adapt its army to the conditions of modern warfare.
