Britain will provide Ukraine with £100 million to strengthen its air defense capabilities this winter
The United Kingdom will allocate 100 million pounds to Ukraine to strengthen its air defense during the winter. The aid package includes the supply of military equipment needed to protect Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.
As part of the new package, Ukraine will receive interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, large-caliber artillery shells, and drones.
The British government noted that the aid will be provided through the PURL mechanism, which allows Ukraine’s international partners to finance the purchase of U.S. weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The British side plans to deliver the military equipment before winter sets in.
British Defense Minister Wes Streeting stated that the issue of winter support for Ukraine was one of the key topics during his first visits to Kyiv.
“During our first visits to Kyiv, the Prime Minister and I heard clearly and unequivocally how important it is to support Ukraine this winter, as Putin prepares to use the cold as a weapon while continuing his barbaric attacks on civilian and energy targets,” Streeting said.
According to him, strengthening Ukraine’s air defense ahead of winter should help counter Russian attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure.
On Tuesday, September 8, Wes Streeting will chair the 36th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the “Ramstein” format.
The meeting will take place online. The session will focus primarily on continued military support for Ukraine and strengthening its defense capabilities.
The £100 million in British aid will be part of international efforts to prepare Ukraine for the winter and strengthen its air defense.

Germany will contribute an additional €250 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
On Tuesday, August 25, the Latvian government approved a new energy support package for the Chernihiv region totaling approximately 200,000 euros.
