UN Secretary-General Guterres calls for an end to hostilities in southern Lebanon — Anadolu Agency
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he is deeply concerned by the escalation of Israeli military attacks in southern Lebanon, particularly in Nabatieh and around the city. This was stated in a statement circulated by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, Anadolu Agency reports.
Concerns over casualties and destruction
Guterres condemned the growing number of civilian casualties. According to him, intensified attacks are killing and injuring women and children, while evacuation orders are causing suffering and displacement. The UN secretary-general also drew attention to extensive destruction.
The UN chief said he was particularly alarmed by reports of Israeli strikes affecting hospitals, medical personnel and public institutions, as well as restrictions on humanitarian access. He stressed that civilians and civilian objects must be protected in all circumstances and that attacks on them are unacceptable.

Call to end hostilities
Guterres called for an immediate end to hostilities and for Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory. He also called on all parties to respect Lebanon's sovereignty and fulfill their obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The statement came after three days of intensified Israeli attacks in the south of the country. According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, 27 people were killed and another 69 were injured during this time; children, women and medical workers were among those affected. Lebanese authorities also say that since March 2, at least 4,381 people have been killed in the attacks, 12,402 have been injured, and more than one million residents have left their homes.
