In Nigeria, APC withdraws petition against Governor Adeleke’s re-election
In Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC) party has withdrawn a petition challenging the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, lawyer Oluseyi Oyeagbile said he withdrew the document from the Osun State Election Petitions Tribunal on Tuesday.
Dispute over authorization
Information about the petition was made public at the tribunal premises in Osogbo, the state capital, less than a day before it was withdrawn. The document was numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026. It listed APC’s gubernatorial candidate Bola Oyebamiji and the party itself as petitioners, while Ademola Adeleke, the Accord party, and Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission were named as respondents.
Earlier, APC’s legal team publicly distanced itself from the petition. Its representatives claimed that neither the party nor Oyebamiji had authorized a challenge to Adeleke’s victory. Before that, Oyebamiji conceded defeat in the election and congratulated the incumbent governor on his victory.

Election results
The Osun State gubernatorial election took place on August 15. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes. His closest rival, Oyebamiji, received 444,815 votes.
Oyeagbile, who signed and filed the documents together with APC’s deputy gubernatorial candidate Kayode Adereti, had previously insisted that the petition was properly authorized. Later, according to The Nation newspaper, he said that he had received new instructions from the client and APC leaders to withdraw the document. According to him, he had first asked for written confirmation of those instructions in WhatsApp messages to avoid another dispute over authorization.
Following the withdrawal of the petition, APC still has a separate filing submitted on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party. At the same time, that party’s candidate, Adebayo Adedamola, also denied, according to the publication, that he had authorized the filing of a petition on his behalf.
