Britain Closed the Airspace Over a U.S. Air Base After an Attempted Attack – Sky News

In the United Kingdom, the use of airspace over the Fairford Air Base—which is used by the U.S. military—has been temporarily restricted following an incident involving explosives that occurred the day before. Air traffic in this area is completely prohibited without specific police authorization.

According to a decision by national air traffic controllers, the ban is in effect within a four-nautical-mile radius of the facility and applies not only to aircraft but also to small balloons, kites, and parachutes. The restrictions will remain in effect until October 5. Meanwhile, local residents who were previously evacuated from the surrounding area may soon be allowed to return to their homes.

In the United Kingdom, near the Royal Air Force Fairford Air Base, five men were detained on September 27 on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack involving explosives. The operation was carried out following a report of three suspicious vans heading toward the military airfield in western England during the night.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the suspects allegedly planned to cause “significant harm” and were the subject of an investigation by British and American authorities. At the same time, British counterterrorism police have not publicly disclosed details about the men’s possible motives.
