British woman Leah Spasova won her case after a decade of being denied sterilization due to doctors' concerns about possible "regret."
CNN reports this.
The woman, who works as a psychologist in Oxfordshire, had been trying for years to obtain the procedure through the UK’s National Health Service.
The ombudsman found that the local health authority had systematically failed to fund female sterilization, while men had access to vasectomies without similar restrictions.
The report noted that the approach was unfair, inconsistent, and based on subjective assessments of whether a woman might change her mind in the future.
After reviewing the complaint, the responsible NHS body agreed to change its policy on access to female sterilization. Meanwhile, Spasova herself stated that she has not yet undergone the procedure.
