Former British star Gary Glitter is on trial for child abuse — The Independent
Former British pop singer Gary Glitter (real name Paul Gadd) appeared before the Westminster Magistrates' Court on charges of sexual offenses which, according to the prosecution, were committed in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The 82-year-old musician is charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, as well as three counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 14.
According to prosecutor Jonathan Polney, the alleged crimes took place between 1978 and 1981. The victim, whose identity is being withheld for legal reasons, was between eight and eleven years old at the time.
Investigators believe the crimes took place at the musician’s home in the Kensington and Chelsea area of London. According to the prosecution, the singer invited the girl to his home and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Glitter participated in the court hearing via video link. During the hearing, he informed the court that he has severe hearing problems and cannot hear without being able to read lips.
According to the London Metropolitan Police, law enforcement learned of the possible crimes in January 2025, and in July of that year, they interviewed Paul Gadd as part of the investigation.
Gary Glitter was one of the most famous British pop singers of the 1970s. Over the course of his career, he sold approximately 18 million records, and among his most famous songs are “Rock And Roll (Parts One And Two),” “I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am),” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me.”
