The Bundestag will discuss expanding the police's digital powers

The German Bundestag plans to consider a package of bills that would expand the powers of the police and prosecutors in the area of digital investigations. The initiatives are designed to strengthen law enforcement’s ability to combat cybercrime and other threats in the digital realm.

The Ministry of the Interior has proposed providing authorities with broader tools for automated data analysis—including the use of artificial intelligence—as part of the fight against terrorism and serious crimes.

These measures will also, for the first time, provide a clear legal basis for certain powers in the field of digital investigations. The package includes rules on automated biometric matching, police data analysis platforms, and new powers for the police.

The Bundestag also intends to discuss further military support for Ukraine, as well as hold a debate titled 250 Years of the U.S.—Freedom, Democracy, and Responsibility” on the parliament’s website, according to DW.

As a reminder, people have been killed in the Kyiv region due to an attack by the Russian Federation, and evacuations are ongoing.

In addition, during the Russian terrorists’ attack on Kyiv on the night of July 6, the home of actress and TV host Olena Kravets was damaged.
