32 people were arrested in France due to large-scale wildfires

Since the start of the 2026 wildfire season in France, law enforcement officials have detained 32 people suspected of being involved in starting the fires. In total, more than 8,000 wildfires have been recorded in the country since the beginning of the year.

The arrests took place in 22 departments across the country

All suspects are being investigated for their involvement in causing large-scale fires.

The head of the French Ministry of the Interior strongly condemned careless and dangerous actions that can lead to fires and emphasized that law enforcement agencies will continue to respond harshly to such violations.

French President Emmanuel Macron also highlighted the human factor as the main cause of most fires.

“Everyone is responsible for their own behavior. Let’s be vigilant,” urged the French president.

According to Macron, nine out of ten fires in France are caused by human activity, which is why authorities are urging citizens to strictly follow fire safety rules, especially during periods of extreme heat and high risk of new wildfires.

This was announced by French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, according to BFMTV.

The European Union has sent specialized firefighting aircraft to assist France and Portugal.

In the province of Almería in southern Spain, a massive wildfire has claimed the lives of at least 12 people. Emergency services continue to battle the flames in the Los Gallardos area, where the disaster has created a critical situation.
