Germany suspects sabotage on the railroad: left-wing radicals have claimed responsibility
German law enforcement officials are investigating the possibility of sabotage following a fire on a major railway line between Düsseldorf and Cologne. Train service was suspended due to damage to signal cables, and disruptions to rail service continued into the following day.
According to sources in security agencies, the fire was unlikely caused by a technical malfunction. The fact that the fire broke out simultaneously in two locations also raises suspicions.
Shortly after the incident, the far-left group Angry Birds Commando claimed responsibility, stating that its members had placed incendiary devices near the cables. According to the agency’s sources, this claim appears credible.
Previously, the same group had claimed responsibility for a similar incident on the railway line between Düsseldorf and Duisburg, which occurred about a year ago.
Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire and are examining the possibility of arson.
