The U.S. Demands the Strait of Hormuz Be Reopened: New Talks with Iran Begin

The U.S. is demanding that Iran fully open the Strait of Hormuz and guarantee safe passage for international vessels. This will be the key topic of the new round of talks between Washington and Tehran.

According to CBS News, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi has already arrived in Oman, where preparations for the talks are underway with the mediation of Oman, Qatar, and Pakistan. The U.S. delegation is expected to include Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

Despite the U.S.’s willingness to engage in dialogue, Iran states that the meeting will not take place until Washington changes its position. At the same time, the White House reports that recent diplomatic contacts have been constructive.

The situation escalated following attacks on commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the U.S. launched strikes against Iranian targets, and Washington is now insisting on the full restoration of safe navigation through this strategic maritime corridor, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil exports passes.
