The Czech Republic wants to transport Azerbaijani gas and oil through Ukraine
The Czech Republic plans to transit Azerbaijani gas and oil through Ukrainian territory in the future. This issue has already been discussed at the leadership level between the two countries.
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said that during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he raised the issue of the possible transit of energy resources from Azerbaijan through Ukrainian territory.
“I asked President Zelenskyy whether Ukraine would allow the transit of Azerbaijani oil and gas through its territory. He replied that this is possible,” Babiš said.
According to the Czech prime minister, Prague intends to fulfill all agreements reached with Azerbaijan regarding future gas supplies.
Currently, Azerbaijan is already among the largest suppliers of oil to the Czech Republic. In addition, the parties are working to expand economic cooperation and are discussing the creation of joint ventures.
Earlier, the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade expressed interest in annual purchases of approximately two billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028–2029. The parties have not yet signed a final agreement, but negotiations are ongoing.
