Denmark Will Boost Police and Intelligence Capabilities Due to the Threat from Russia

In 2027, the Danish government plans to allocate nearly 800 million Danish kroner, or about 33 million euros, to strengthen the work of the police and the police intelligence service PET. The decision is based on an assessment of the current security situation and threats from Russia.

The funds will be included in Denmark’s upcoming 2027 state budget proposal. The government is expected to present the document in the near future.

Justice Minister Nikolai Vammen stated that the security situation continues to deteriorate and that potential risks could directly affect Denmark.

“It has now become clear that the security situation has deteriorated even further, and that this may also have implications for security in our country, particularly for the defense industry and critical infrastructure. Therefore, we are investing significant funds in a security package designed to strengthen the police and intelligence services in the coming years,” Nikolai Vammen noted.

The nearly 800 million kroner earmarked for this purpose will be directed toward measures that will strengthen the capabilities of the Danish police and PET in the coming years.

The Danish government attributes the need for such investments to new challenges to national security, particularly risks to critical infrastructure and the defense industry.

DR reports this, citing information from the Danish Ministry of Justice.

The Danish Military Intelligence Service stated that Russia—an aggressor state—is likely to intensify hybrid attacks against the West and NATO in the coming months. In its new threat assessment, the intelligence agency also pointed to a low but growing risk of a limited military attack by Russia against one or more neighboring NATO member states.

Heads of European intelligence services warned that Russia, an aggressor state, may intensify operations against NATO countries in the coming months. These include, in particular, sabotage, drone attacks, and limited incursions.
