Denmark Briefly Closes Airports After Unexplained Drone Sightings

Danish authorities temporarily closed several airports, including both civilian and military facilities, after reports of unidentified drones in the skies. The incidents occurred in different regions, including Aalborg Airport, which hosts fighter jets, and Billund, Denmark’s second-largest airport.

Officials said they could not yet confirm who was behind the drone sightings but noted the events came amid heightened tension in Europe, following recent Russian airspace violations over Poland, Estonia, and Romania. NATO and European leaders emphasized they were taking the situation very seriously.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that while the incidents did not pose an immediate military threat, they highlighted Denmark’s vulnerability to hybrid warfare and infrastructure sabotage. He added that a “professional actor” may have been involved, pointing to the systematic and coordinated nature of the drone activity.
