Davey sees chance to overtake Conservatives in Britain — Anadolu Agency
In the United Kingdom, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said that the split between the Conservative Party and Reform UK opens a “historic opportunity” for his party at the next general election. He said this on the BBC’s Today programme, Anadolu Agency reports.
Competition for voters
According to Davey, the right wing of British politics is fragmented for the first time in parliamentary history. He noted that the Conservatives and Reform UK are competing for many of the same voters, although both parties have ruled out the possibility of an electoral alliance.
In the Liberal Democrat leader’s view, this division could allow his party to win seats that traditionally belonged to the Conservatives.

A chance for more seats
Davey also said that the Liberal Democrats have a “real chance” of winning more seats than the Conservative Party after the next election. According to him, liberal-minded and pro-European Conservatives are increasingly drawn to his party because of changes in the Conservative Party under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership.
He added that he seeks to prevent Reform UK leader Nigel Farage from coming to power. Davey called countering the far right a moral responsibility and said his party must win in order to stop Farage and prevent Badenoch from “giving him the keys” to Downing Street.
