Poland closed two airports due to Russian attacks on Ukraine

Poland scrambled military aircraft and stepped up its air defense forces in response to the latest Russian strikes on Ukraine. In light of the attack, operations at the airports in Rzeszów and Lublin were also temporarily suspended.

 

“In connection with the Russian Federation’s strikes on Ukrainian territory, which are being carried out using air attack capabilities, military aircraft have begun operations in Polish airspace,” the command stated in a release.

The Polish command noted that the necessary air defense and electronic intelligence forces and assets were deployed to ensure the protection of Polish airspace.

According to the Polish Air Traffic Control Agency, the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów temporarily suspended operations to ensure freedom of action for military aircraft. After the military operation concluded, both airports resumed operations.

The Polish military reported that no violations of Polish airspace were recorded. After the operation concluded, ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems returned to normal operations.

Due to military aviation activity, residents of central Poland may also have heard a loud, explosion-like sound this morning. The Polish military explained that it was caused by fighter jets breaking the sound barrier.

Earlier, Poland and Latvia scrambled military aircraft due to a threat in the air.

On the morning of September 23, Russian terrorists attacked the area around Kyiv’s Central Train Station. Fortunately, the building serving as Ukraine’s main railway gateway was not damaged.

On the night of September 23, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 161 strike drones of various types. Among them were 82 jet-powered UAVs. As of 8:00 a.m., air defense forces had destroyed or neutralized 119 enemy drones and three additional “Banderole”/“Dan-T” drones. 

Since the evening of September 22, Russian forces have attacked two districts in the Dnipropetrovsk region more than 10 times. The occupiers used drones and dropped aerial bombs; one person was injured as a result of the attacks.
