Russian lawmaker warns of rising social tensions

Vyacheslav Marzaev, a State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), stated that, in his opinion, Russia is on the brink of a serious internal crisis due to a combination of political, economic, and social problems, as well as the protracted war against Ukraine.

In his statement, he noted that corruption scandals in the country, rising casualties on the front lines, and ineffective governance, in his words, are exacerbating tensions in society. The deputy also emphasized that the geography of attacks on Russian cities is allegedly expanding, which further affects the overall situation.

Separately, Markhaev drew attention to the fact that, according to him, official structures are already rethinking the goals of the so-called “special military operation,” which may be narrowed down to only the occupied territories. Against this backdrop, he called on the authorities to publish a clear and public plan for ending hostilities, warning that in the absence of such decisions, internal problems will only intensify.

The MP also criticized the government’s socio-economic policies, particularly the sharp rise in utility rates over the past decades and the deterioration of infrastructure. He highlighted the financial burden on the population, especially on pensioners, as well as the growing wealth inequality.

In his view, the current model of state governance has led to the authorities losing touch with the needs of citizens. He also stated that if the current course continues, the likelihood of a large-scale domestic crisis will increase.

Separately, he emphasized that significant national resources are being directed toward military spending, which places an additional burden on the economy amid a protracted conflict.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.
