Trump spoke of a resurgence of the communist threat in the U.S. during a speech marking the 250th anniversary of independence

During his commemorative speech marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the country is facing a “resurgence of the communist threat, which, in his view, threatens the American way of life and the nation’s prosperity.

Speaking at Mount Rushmore on the eve of Independence Day, Trump called on Americans to defend the freedoms enshrined by the Founding Fathers.

“As we approach this momentous anniversary, we see our American identity coming under a new attack. We are now witnessing a resurgence of the communist threat on our soil, particularly from newcomers who espouse ideas that are completely at odds with our way of life and our great success. We will not let this happen,” the U.S. president declared.

The U.S. leader’s speech came after at least four candidates who identify as democratic socialists or progressive Democrats won their respective Democratic Party primaries. Midterm congressional elections are scheduled to take place in the U.S. this fall, in which Republicans could lose control of one of the chambers.

Trump emphasized that communism is incompatible with the principles of American statehood.

“Communism is the enemy of free people everywhere, all over the world; it never works; it is the enemy of the Constitution; above all, it is the enemy of July 4, 1776—it is truly the enemy,” said the White House chief.

The president also linked his anti-communist rhetoric to the issue of illegal immigration, stating that the threat also comes from some of the country’s new arrivals.

“We intend, and we swear so that everyone may hear, that the citizens of the United States of America will quickly defeat communism... We will quickly send them away and continue to build our country bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. America will never be a communist country!” Trump emphasized.

On July 4, the United States of America celebrates Independence Day—one of the country’s most important national holidays. It was on this day in 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was adopted, proclaiming the creation of a new state and its separation from Great Britain. For Americans, this date symbolizes freedom, democracy, and national unity.

Abnormally high temperatures in late June caused a sharp rise in electricity prices on European energy exchanges. Meteorologists predict that a new heat wave in July could keep prices high.

A severe heat wave has swept across the central and eastern states of the U.S., forcing authorities to cancel or postpone dozens of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence.
