U.S. national debt exceeds $40 trillion for the first time — Reuters
The total U.S. national debt has exceeded the $40 trillion mark for the first time in history. This figure has doubled during the presidential terms of Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that the national debt had surpassed $40 trillion for the first time.
The total includes $32.266 trillion in securities held by citizens and $7.78 trillion in intergovernmental debt.
In less than 10 years, the U.S. national debt has doubled—from $19.95 trillion at the start of Donald Trump’s first presidential term. One-third of this doubling occurred during the two “COVID” years.
Last week, the U.S. Treasury Department reported the fourth-largest monthly budget deficit in the country’s history—$432 billion for July.
When asked recently whether Americans should be concerned about volatility in the bond market, President Trump replied in the negative. “In my opinion, not at all. I think we have a very powerful country,” he said, before reiterating that he believes it is necessary to lower interest rates.

Ukraine’s national debt decreased by $2.36 billion in March.
The NBU set a record for reserves and will transfer over 146 billion hryvnias to the budget.
