DirectAid completes aid distribution to flood victims in Ghana
Humanitarian organization DirectAid Ghana has completed the distribution of aid to residents of communities in the Greater Accra Region and the city of Kasoa in Ghana who were affected by flooding in June 2026. MyJoyOnline reports.
Residents of Alajo, Abofo-Achimota, Nana-Krom Lakeside Santor, Abeka, Dansoman and Ablekuma Manheia in the Greater Accra Region, as well as Kasoa in the Central Region, received assistance. The program was aimed at supporting families whose homes and livelihoods were affected by the disaster.
Assistance for families
The program was estimated to cost approximately 2 million Ghanaian cedis. About 1,500 families were expected to receive support.
The packages included rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, beans, tomatoes and other food products. People were also given mattresses, bedsheets, blankets, towels, soap and Parazone disinfectant.

The organization said the assistance was provided with support from donors in Kuwait, while government officials helped coordinate the distribution. DirectAid also announced its intention to provide clinics and hospitals with medical supplies and other essential items to support their work.
Call to prevent flooding
During the penultimate stage of the distribution in Dansoman, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund Hajia Rakiya Abdulai urged residents not to build structures on waterways or dump waste into drainage channels. According to her, such actions directly contribute to flooding.
Abdulai noted that alongside state support for those affected in the event of disasters, preventive measures to protect lives and property are important.
