More than 2,200 Mexicans deported from the U.S. have arrived in Guatemala
Since the beginning of the year, 2,284 Mexican citizens who had been deported from the United States have arrived in Guatemala. Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo stated that the Mexicans are being transported on the same planes used to return Guatemalans to the country.
According to Arevalo, Guatemala serves as a transit point for deported Mexicans. They are transported to Mexico under an agreement with the Mexican government. The president noted that the return to the country of citizenship takes place within 24 hours, and transportation costs are covered by either Mexico or the United States.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs has objected to the practice whereby the United States sends Mexican citizens through third countries. The ministry stated that it is coordinating with the countries involved to ensure the safe return of its citizens and emphasized that every Mexican citizen has the right to enter the country.

According to Deutsche Welle, until recently, Mexicans deported from the U.S. were mostly sent directly to Mexico. Migration experts believe that being routed through Guatemala or other third countries could make it more difficult for them to cross the U.S. border again.
There have also been reports of Mexicans being deported from the U.S. to Honduras. The Associated Press, citing official Honduran documents, reported that 82 Mexicans arrived in San Pedro Sula on two flights last week, and another 35, according to the data, were scheduled to arrive on Thursday. According to monitoring by Human Rights First and Refugees International, Honduras had accepted 165 Mexicans by mid-July, and by mid-August, another 37 people had been deported there from the U.S.
