Australia's Labor Party is stepping up its campaign against Pauline Hanson and One Nation

The Australian Labor Party has stepped up its digital campaign against One Nation and its leader, Pauline Hanson. Labor is also trying to link One Nation to the conservative Coalition in the eyes of voters. In advertisements and messages, supporters are urged to donate between $5 and $42 to counter One Nation.

According to ABC News Australia, Labor is building its campaign around Hanson’s positions on workers’ rights, wages, and working conditions. They claim that the Coalition does not have enough votes to form a government without One Nation, and are also trying to convince voters that their opponents share a common political agenda.

One of the main issues has been the superannuation system. A message to supporters, purportedly sent on behalf of Jim Chalmers, claimed that Liberal politician Andrew Bragg wants to abolish the superannuation system and that Hanson supports him. The One Nation leader rejected this, stating that her party does not seek to abolish the system.

Chalmers told ABC News Australia that he is concerned about the future of retirement savings if they are managed by the Liberal Party, the National Party, and One Nation. According to him, these political parties do not support a universal savings system or the principle of preserving funds until retirement age. Labor also seized on Hanson’s proposal to allow people to access their retirement savings early amid rising living costs.

One Nation is responding with its own fundraising campaign. After Labor asked for $27 in June to fight Hanson, the party launched the “Fire the Liar” campaign and, according to ABC News Australia, raised over $4 million in five days.

Another test for the parties will be the by-election in the Secret Harbour district of Western Australia, triggered by the resignation of the local Labor representative. The district covers the coastal suburbs south of Perth. The Labor Party acknowledges that Secret Harbour may be one of the districts where One Nation is capable of winning.
