First cargo via Pinglu Canal arrives at Baise port in China — ECNS

The first cargo transported via a river-sea route through the Pinglu Canal arrived at the port of Baise in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwestern China on September 21. The vessels delivered bauxite imported from Australia, ECNS reports, citing local maritime authorities.

Route through Nanning

The cargo vessels passed through Beibu Gulf and then used the inland waterway of the Pinglu Canal. The cargo was transshipped at the port of Nanning and then delivered to Baise.

The new direct route shortens the waterway by approximately 560 kilometers, to around 650 kilometers, compared with the traditional route through the Pearl River Delta. According to the outlet, transit time has been reduced from 12–15 days to 5–7 days.

Claimed cost reduction

According to ECNS, the new route reduces logistics costs by 18–30%. During the first voyage, maritime services used intelligent monitoring platforms and organized on-site patrols to ensure navigation safety.

The outlet also noted that infrastructure modernization is continuing in parallel, while the port of Baise is being developed as a hub of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
