Rural residents’ incomes in Xizang rose fourfold in 13 years — ECNS
In China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, the average per capita disposable income of rural residents increased from 5,698 yuan in 2012 to 23,184 yuan in 2025. The average annual growth rate was 11.4%, the highest among China’s regions, ECNS reported, citing the local department of agriculture and rural affairs.
Investment in the agricultural sector
According to the department, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which covered 2021–2025, 25.46 billion yuan was invested in the region’s agriculture and animal husbandry. Another 61.25 billion yuan was allocated as subsidies for rural revitalization.

In the region, which is located on a high-altitude plateau and has harsh natural conditions, agricultural production modernization was developed. As of the time of publication, more than 4.55 million mu of high-standard farmland had been created there — approximately 303,370 hectares.
Vegetable cultivation
More than 130 varieties of vegetables are grown in Xizang, and their annual production exceeds 1.01 million tonnes. During the peak season, the vegetable self-sufficiency rate in major cities, including Lhasa, reached 88%, according to ECNS.
