The road to Morskoe Oko has reopened to tourists

Tourists can once again reach Morskie Oko—one of the most popular destinations in the Polish Tatra Mountains. After several days of being completely closed, the road has been reopened to traffic, and electric bus service will resume in the near future. However, the repairs are not yet fully complete. Additional work is planned for this section in June, so visitors should stay tuned for updates. This is reported by RMF24.

As of Saturday, May 30, traffic has resumed on the road leading to Morskie Oko Lake in Poland’s Tatra National Park. Over the past five days, the section was completely closed to both vehicles and pedestrians due to extensive repairs. During this time, road crews completed the bulk of the work and repaved the road.

Now tourists can once again plan trips to one of the country’s most famous natural landmarks. Along with the road’s reopening, transportation services for visitors have also resumed.

Horse-drawn carriages, which traditionally transport tourists on the route to Morskie Oko, can now operate as usual. According to Magdalena Zviiach-Kozitsa, a representative of the Tatra National Park, electric buses will return to the route on Sunday, May 31. These eco-friendly buses have recently become a popular alternative for tourists who do not want to walk the entire way.

Roadwork began on May 18. In the first phase, road crews renewed the asphalt surface and reinforced the road shoulders. At the end of May, the road had to be completely closed to complete the main work.

As a result, electric buses and horse-drawn carriages were temporarily suspended, and tourists could not reach Morske Oko via the usual route. The national park explained that the repairs were necessary due to the heavy traffic on the road, which is used by hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Although the road has reopened, the repair work is not yet fully complete. According to the Tatra District Administration, an additional phase of repairs is scheduled for June 8–10. During this period, the road will remain open to pedestrians, but vehicle traffic may be partially restricted. In some sections, cars may be allowed through in alternating turns.

Electric buses and horse-drawn carriages will again be temporarily suspended during these works. Organizers also warn that the repair schedule may change depending on weather conditions.

Morskie Oko is considered the most famous lake in the Polish Tatra Mountains and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from Poland and other countries every year. The lake is situated among mountain peaks at an altitude of nearly 1,400 meters above sea level. It is listed among the most beautiful natural locations in Central Europe.

That is why any restrictions on the road to Morskie Oko always generate significant interest among tourists. Once the main phase of repairs is complete, visitors will once again be able to plan trips to one of the main symbols of the Polish Tatra Mountains without hindrance.

Ukrainian blogger Andriy Havryliv was banned from entering Poland for five years after he drove his car into the Morskie Oko Nature Reserve in the Tatra Mountains.
