The drones spotted near the Ukrainian border in Poland turned out to be part of military exercises

In the Polish town of Hrubieszów, near the border with Ukraine, local residents spotted drones in the sky, sparking concern and lively discussion on social media; however, the Polish military explained that these were routine air defense exercises. The maneuvers are taking place in the east of the country and will last several days. This was reported by the Onet news portal.

In the Polish town of Hrubieszów, located just a few kilometers from the border with Ukraine, local residents began reporting unknown drones in the sky on Tuesday evening, and videos featuring the characteristic hum of the drones quickly appeared on social media, causing a wave of concern among residents of the region.

However, the Polish military command responded promptly to the reports and clarified the situation, stating that there was no threat and that units were operating in the air as part of scheduled exercises. “We would like to inform you that scheduled air defense system exercises are currently taking place in eastern Poland and will continue until Wednesday, May 20,” reads a statement from the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command, published on social media platform X.

The military clarified that air force and ground forces units are involved in the maneuvers, and the main goal of the exercises is to test response procedures, coordination, and overall combat readiness under conditions approximating real-world challenges.

Separately, the command noted that, in parallel, tactical-special exercises called COMMON SAREX-26 are underway in northern Poland, during which the military is practicing search-and-rescue operation procedures both on land and at sea, as part of a broader program to enhance the country’s security capabilities.

Despite official explanations, the appearance of drones near the border has once again demonstrated how sensitive the situation along the border remains.
